Ashraya funding can be available to improve
physical facilities in a school serving a poor neighborhood. This
can be for upgrading a dilapidated classroom, construction of toilets,
improving a common-use facility, etc.

One of the first project of this kind was for complete reconstruction
of a five-room school located in the industrial area
of Jalandhar serving about 200 poor children in the community.
Since the area was unauthorized, there was no other
school available. The school was in very poor condition.
Ashraya assisted in the upgrading of the school building
to improve lighting, ventilation and general environmental
conditions. Partial funding for the project was provided by
the friends of Mr. Inder Sud, the founder of Ashraya, in memory
of his late father, Sh. Durga Dutta Sud who passed away on
February 1, 1999.
Ashraya also funded in 2008 the construction of a stage
in a girls school in the village of Rajpur in Himachal Pradesh.
This will provide much needed space for children performances
and school functions.
