Beautician
With the growing middle classes, there
is a demand for the services of beauticians and coiffures. Initially,
a group of women in the Nasrala village organized themselves to
receive training in these services. The aim of the project
was to provide the women with the skills required to work independently
as a beautician. Ashraya provided support for supplies. The
trainees were also provided with kits. The organizer
of the project, Mrs. Parbodh Gupta provided space for the training
in her factory premises. The project closed in 2004 after several
women from the village had received training. The concept has since
been replicated in other locations. Currently, a project on similar
lines is running successfully in a poor locality in Jalandhar in
the premises of a school.
